On December 4, 2010, Kate McCaughey was crowned Miss Rhode Island USA 2011. Kate, 22, of Lincoln, Rhode Island is the daughter of James and Nancy McCaughey and younger sister of Andrew McCaughey, Jay McCaughey, Jessica (McCaughey) Head, and Susan (McCaughey) Beuck. She is also an aunt to six nephews and three nieces.
Kate is a 2006 graduate of Lincoln Jr/ Sr. High School in Lincoln, Rhode Island. At the age of 18 she went to New Hampshire to attend Southern New Hampshire University. Kate graduated in 2010, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations. She was named the Most Outstanding Graduate in the Communications program and earned Cum Laude honors.
In the spring of 2009, Kate pursued her passion for travel by studying abroad in Cork, Ireland. While living in Ireland, Kate took advantage of her surroundings. She spent the semester traveling throughout Ireland, and also visited Nice and Paris, France. The highlights of her trip were kissing the Blarney Stone, and viewing Paris from the Eiffel Tower, which was always a dream of hers. Kate enjoys spending her summers on Hog Island at a beach house built by her Pepere (Grandfather). Hog Island is a small island located on Narragansett Bay which has around 100 family cottages. Hog Island doesn't have any paved roads, telephone poles, or electricity! This is where she enjoys digging for clams, boating, swimming, kayaking, and spending time with family.
Kate is currently working towards her Master's of Science degree in Marketing from Southern New Hampshire University Online. She describes herself as dedicated, passionate, and determined. Kate is thrilled to represent Rhode Island at the 60th Miss USA pageant. This was her 3rd attempt at the Miss Rhode Island USA title. Here comes Kate McCaughey, Miss Rhode Island 2011!
